Khaki drill is a twill with the yarns arranged in high density. Originally, the word ¡°khaki¡± refers to ¡°earth¡±. At the very beginning, military uniforms are dyed in a mineral dyestuff called ¡°khaki¡± as the protective color. Hence, the name of the dyestuff ¡°khaki¡± is adopted to generally refer to this kind of fabrics.
Khaki is solid and dense in texture, clear-cut in weave and durable and offers a solid and thick hand. Khakis of extra-high density are more resistant to flat wearing but not very resistant to folded wearing. Normally, any garment made of such kind of fabrics are worn first at wristband, collar and bottom ends of trousers, where the cloth is folded.
Khakis are large in varieties. In terms of the different raw materials used, there are cotton khaki, T/C khaki, etc.; if classified in structures and compositions, there are one-side khaki, double-side khaki, pointed drill, sateen drill, etc.; if classified in the yarns and threads used, there are the uncombed, the semi-combed and the fully combed.
